Note: Once your application to vote by mail is approved, you can't change your mind and vote at advance polls or on election day. Your ballot must arrive at your local Elections Canada office in your riding by election day (Monday, April 13, 2026), or it cannot be counted. Your personal information is collected to maintain the National Register of Electors (NRoE) or the Register of Future Electors (RoFE) pursuant to the Canada Elections Act (the Act) and, to process applications to vote by mail pursuant to the Act.

Your personal information (except in the optional fields) will be included in the Register, NRoE or RoFE, pursuant to the Act, unless you have chosen otherwise, and is used to register you or update your information in the Register, NRoE or RoFE. Register information, NRoE or RoFE, may be disclosed to provincial and territorial electoral agencies and municipalities in accordance with information-sharing agreements that are also authorized under the Act. This information may further be shared with the Commissioner of Canada Elections to ensure the Act is complied with and enforced. We may also use the services of third parties, who are also required to protect your personal information, to deliver the special ballot voting kits. If your personal information is in the National Register of Electors (NRoE), your name, address and a unique identifier number will be used in lists of electors that are shared with members of Parliament, political parties and candidates for purposes authorized under the Act. Canadian Forces elector information in the NRoE will be shared with the Canadian Forces to create unit lists of electors.

Inclusion in the Register, NRoE or RoFE, is optional. If you wish to be removed from the Register or prevent the sharing of your personal information with provincial and territorial electoral agencies and municipalities, you can make a request in writing to Elections Canada. If your personal information is in the Register of Future Electors (RoFE), you can also prevent the sharing of this information when using the Online Voter Registration Service to add or update your information. If your personal information is in the National Register of Electors (NRoE) and you choose to be removed from the Register, you will not receive a voter information card informing you of when and where to vote during an election. You will also not automatically be included on the lists of electors. You will still be able to vote, but you will have to register at your Elections Canada office, at advance polls or at your polling station on election day. When you register to vote, you can indicate on your registration form that you do not want to be added to the National Register of Electors (NRoE).

Your personal information is protected by the Privacy Act. You have the right to access your information and request that it be corrected. You also have the right to file a complaint with the Privacy Commissioner of Canada about how your personal information is handled.
